WYSL Volunteers Needed!
by WYSL Board posted 01/03/2012

The WYSL is run entirely by volunteers.  We are always looking for additional helpers.  Most of the jobs do not require any soccer knowledge. So, if you are interested in working with a terrific group of people, please contact someone on the Board or come to one our monthly general meetings.

WYSL General Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month @ 8:00 p.m. at the WYSL Club House, Simpson Court.

WYSL Upcoming Events
by Ray Slivinski, WYSL President posted 10/10/2011

Hello Parents & Coaches,

Ray Slivinski here to just let you know about 2 things currently going on in the League that I'd like to draw your attention to.

First, before that, I'd like to thank you for your co-operation in helping us to clean up the situation with birth certificates and having kids playing age appropriately. It's a big deal that we're all on the same page. The things that we as directors have implemented at the various age levels are in keeping with the most current thinking on what kids can handle at their age. We strive to provide a quality product for a reasonable price so that the kids and the parents have a good expeience and want to return as well as invite their friends. It is a game so it should always be fun!

Ok, back to the 2 things I want to mention.

On October 22nd we are offering what is called a Youth Module here in Wallingford at Moran Middle School. It's a fancy name for a coaching class that is geared towards parent coaches who are working with kids aged 4-12. It is 5 hours on a Saturday that will be well worth your time. We are all extremely busy in our lives with our kids and their events and practices. I know. I wouldn't want to waste your time. The fundamental information in this interactive session is so practical and so helpful that it will ultimately save you time and frustration as you learn age appropriate activities and expectations for your child.

This class is also offered to parents who want to help out their child in further development with a game they love. Soccer is a game that can be fun to learn alone in the back yard and parents with little or no experience can learn how to help their child(ren).

The League pays for the class fee and the facility fee. The class is divided into 2 segments: an interactive 3 hour classroom session and a 2 hour sample field session where the instructors hold a practice session with our kids to help facilitate understanding what was just taught. A certificate is awarded and counts as a precursor for future coaching classes if desired...

Please contact me if you are interested..All coaches who are going to coach our developmental teams are required to take a Youth Module class.

Secondly, if you haven't seen me at East Center yet, you will. I have been promoting our apparel program called WYSL Gear. It's a fund raising program that will directly benefit our kids and our fields. I have been selling blankets, sweatshirts(hoodies), car magnets, practice tee shirts, soccer back packs, sweat suits. All these items are available on our web site at wysl.net.

Thank-you for your volunteerism and I'll see you at the fields. Ray
